Dudhsagar Waterfall Trek
Dudhsagar, meaning 'sea of milk', is one of India's tallest and most spectacular waterfalls, cascading over roughly 310 metres in four tiers on the Goa-Karnataka border inside the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. What makes this trek unforgettable is the approach itself — trekkers walk along an active section of the Castle Rock to Kulem railway line, weaving through tunnels and over bridges with the Western Ghats' forest closing in on both sides, before the falls suddenly appear in full, thundering glory, at their absolute peak volume during and just after the monsoon.
Highlights
- Walking along the scenic Castle Rock-Kulem railway track through Ghat forests
- Standing at the base of the mighty four-tiered Dudhsagar Falls at monsoon peak
- A refreshing natural pool dip at the base of the falls
- Trekking inside the biodiverse Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary
- Crossing railway bridges and tunnels used by the Mumbai-Bengaluru line
Who is this for?
Ideal for adventure-seekers and monsoon-trek lovers who enjoy a mix of light trekking, train-track walking and a refreshing dip at the base of the falls; moderate fitness is needed for the track walk and slippery rocky approach near the waterfall.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is walking on the railway track safe?
The route is a well-established trekking path used with local guide coordination and timing around train schedules; trekkers walk in single file under guide instructions and step off the track at designated safe points when trains pass.
Will we be able to swim at the base of the falls?
A dip in the natural pool is offered subject to water flow and safety assessment on the day — during very heavy monsoon flow, swimming may be restricted by the trek leader or forest officials for safety.
Why is the pickup the evening before instead of early morning?
Since Dudhsagar is on the Goa-Karnataka border, it's a long overnight drive from Mumbai, so departure the previous evening ensures the group reaches the base point well-rested and ready to trek by mid-morning.
