Frequently Asked Questions
How many days are enough to explore Hampi?
A 3-day itinerary (or 3D/2N weekend trip) is the ideal duration to comfortably explore Hampi. It allows ample time to cover the Sacred Centre (Virupaksha Temple, Hemakuta Hill, Krishna Temple), the Royal Centre (Vittala Temple, Stone Chariot, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables), and the Anegundi Kishkindha side (Anjanadri Hill sunset & Tungabhadra coracle ride) without feeling rushed.
Which is the best month to visit Hampi?
The best time to visit Hampi is between October and March during the cooler winter months when daytime temperatures range between 20°C and 32°C. Peak summer (April to June) is extremely hot with temperatures exceeding 40°C on the open granite boulders and should be avoided.
Which railway station is closest to Hampi and how do we reach?
Hosapete Junction (HPT) is the nearest railway station, located just 13 km (a 25-minute drive) from Hampi. Regular overnight AC sleeper buses and express trains connect Hosapete to Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. Our Mumbai Trekizens package includes direct return AC sleeper bus travel from Mumbai pickup points to Hosapete.
Is Hampi the birthplace of Lord Hanuman (Kishkindha)?
Yes, in the Ramayana, the mythological monkey kingdom of Kishkindha is located around Anegundi across the Tungabhadra River in Hampi. Anjanadri Hill is revered as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. Climbing the 575 steps to the hilltop Anjaneya temple rewards travellers with sweeping 360-degree sunset views across the boulder landscape.
What clothes should I wear in Hampi?
Wear modest, lightweight and breathable cotton clothing covering shoulders and knees when entering active temples like Virupaksha Temple. For exploring the expansive monument complexes and rocky boulder terrain, wear comfortable hiking shoes or sneakers with good traction, a wide-brim sun hat, and UV-protection sunglasses.
Is Hampi safe for solo female travellers?
Yes, Hampi is widely considered one of the safest and most hospitable heritage destinations in India for solo female travellers. The local community is welcoming, and UNESCO monument areas are well-monitored. Joining a guided Mumbai Trekizens group departure provides vetted accommodation, a dedicated trip lead, and secure group transit from start to finish.
Can we visit Hampi monuments at night?
ASI monument complexes (such as Vittala Temple, Lotus Mahal, and Elephant Stables) close at sunset around 6:00 PM for conservation. However, visitors can attend the evening aarti and elephant blessings at Virupaksha Temple, dine at riverside cafes in Hampi Bazaar, and enjoy clear stargazing from designated viewpoints.
Which is better: Hampi or Badami?
Both destinations showcase remarkable heritage: Hampi features an immense 4,100-hectare UNESCO open-air capital with Vijayanagara stone architecture, boulder hills, and river coracles, while Badami is famous for 6th-century Chalukyan rock-cut cave temples around Agastya Lake. For a standalone 3-day trip, Hampi offers a wider variety of cultural, mythological, and landscape experiences.
What are the must-see attractions in Hampi?
Must-see sights include the iconic Stone Chariot and Musical Pillars at Vijaya Vittala Temple, the active Virupaksha Temple, 360-degree sunrise view from Matanga Hill, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Queen's Bath, sunset at Hemakuta Hill, and a traditional round coracle boat ride along the Tungabhadra River.
What is special to buy and eat in Hampi?
Popular souvenirs include handmade banana-fibre handicrafts, miniature soapstone carvings, Lambani embroidered textiles, and leather bags. For dining, enjoy authentic North Karnataka jowar roti thalis, traditional South Indian breakfasts, and eclectic riverside cafe dishes such as wood-fired pizzas and banana pancakes.
Is this trip suitable for senior citizens and families?
Yes, the pace of the tour is leisurely. Most monument exploration is across flat terrain. Climbing Matanga Hill or Anjanadri Hill is optional and can be substituted with relaxed temple visits or riverside walks.
Do I need to book my own bus or train to Hosapete?
No. Return AC sleeper bus travel from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai pickup points directly to Hosapete, along with all local transfers in Hampi, is included in our tour package.
