Kolad River Rafting

This Kolad rafting experience starts a little further upstream on the Kundalika, at a put-in point near Dernie village, giving you a slightly longer paddle-in stretch before the first major rapid hits. Rafts here are run by a local Kolad-based cooperative that also manages a shaded picnic spot right on the riverbank, so instead of driving off to a restaurant after the raft, the day winds down at the water's edge itself. You'll paddle through a mix of Grade II-III rapids and long calm pools, with the option to hop off the raft for a swim in one of the deeper pools along the way. Because the group settles in at the cooperative's own riverside spot rather than rushing back to the vehicle, the day feels noticeably more relaxed than a typical rafting-and-run outing. After the rafting session, lunch is served picnic-style under shade right by the water, and there's free time afterward to simply sit by the river, click photos or wade in the shallows before heading back — making this a better fit for families or groups who want the rafting experience without the day feeling rushed.

Highlights

  • Rafting from the Dernie village put-in point, a different stretch of the Kundalika
  • Riverside picnic lunch spot included instead of a restaurant stopover
  • Relaxed pace with longer calm-water sections for swimming and photos
  • Run by a local Kolad-based rafting cooperative familiar with the river
  • Great option for families and groups wanting a laid-back river day

Who is this for?

Suited to first-timers and families looking for a relaxed full-day river outing rather than a pure adrenaline run; children above 8 years and adults up to 55-60 are welcome as long as they're comfortable being in water.

Kolad and Kundalika river rafting are the same 12–14 km rafting stretch on the Kundalika river at Kolad, Raigad, run on the Bhira dam water release. The two listings are just different start batches — pick whichever date suits you. See also the Kundalika River Rafting and our River Rafting overview.
